Description:
The “Real-Time Flood Alert & Monitoring System” is an innovative working model for students designed to demonstrate how automated flood detection and early warning systems can help mitigate the risks of floods. This project simulates a smart flood monitoring system that detects rising water levels, triggers an alert, and sends a warning notification using a GSM module (SIM800L).
The model is built on a 40 × 50 cm Foam Board or Sun Board base, representing a flood-prone area with a water level monitoring system. An ultrasonic sensor measures the water level, continuously sending data to the Arduino Uno microcontroller. When the water reaches a critical level, the system performs the following automated responses:
- Buzzer Activation: A buzzer sounds an alarm to warn residents.
- Visual Alert: LEDs turn on to indicate flood risk.
- LCD Display Notification: The 16×2 LCD module with I2C displays real-time water level status.
- GSM Emergency Notification: The GSM module (SIM800L) sends a warning SMS to designated contacts.
- Automatic Water Release: A cut-off valve can be activated to control excess water flow, helping reduce flood impact.
The system is powered through a power distribution board, with jumper wires and glue sticks ensuring strong electrical connections. This project provides students with hands-on learning in disaster management, Arduino programming, and IoT-based monitoring, showcasing how technology can improve flood preparedness and response.
