Highway Wind Power Generation

Description:

The “Highway Wind Power Generation” is an innovative working model for students that demonstrates how wind energy from moving vehicles can be harnessed to generate electricity. This project simulates a small-scale wind power system that converts the kinetic energy of highway winds into usable electrical power for applications like streetlights or charging stations.

The model is constructed on a 40 × 50 cm Foam Board or Sun Board base, representing a highway with a wind turbine system. The system operates as follows:

  • Wind Turbine Mechanism:
    • A cycle spoke and straws are used to create rotating turbine blades that spin when air from passing vehicles pushes them.
    • The spinning turbine is connected to a copper wire coil (35mm gauge) and a zinc plate, allowing for the generation of electrical energy.
    • Neodymium magnets placed near the coil create electromagnetic induction, generating a current.
  • Power Regulation & Output:
    • The generated electricity is processed through a 7805 voltage regulator to ensure a stable 5V power supply.
    • A 5V relay and IN4007 diode help protect the circuit and improve power efficiency.
    • A BC547 transistor and resistors ensure smooth current flow.
    • Battery Clip & Connecting Wires store and distribute the generated power.
    • An LDR Module (Light Dependent Resistor) can be added to automatically turn on LED lights at night, demonstrating a real-world application for smart highway lighting.

This project provides hands-on learning in renewable energy, electromagnetic induction, and sustainable highway infrastructure, showcasing how highways can be transformed into power-generating systems using wind energy from moving vehicles.
