Smart Self-Opening Dustbin
Description:
The “Smart Self-Opening Dustbin” is an innovative student project that demonstrates the application of automation and sensor-based technology to promote hygiene and waste management. This working model showcases how a touchless dustbin can be implemented using an ultrasonic sensor, servo motor, and Arduino Uno microcontroller to automatically open and close the lid when an object (such as a hand) is detected near it.
The model is constructed on a 40 × 50 cm Foam Board or Sun Board base, providing a sturdy and lightweight structure. The ultrasonic sensor detects the proximity of a person’s hand or waste material, sending signals to the Arduino Uno microcontroller, which then triggers the servo motor to open the dustbin lid automatically. After a short delay, the lid closes on its own. Connecting wires are used to establish connections between the components, ensuring smooth operation.
This project offers students hands-on experience in basic robotics, automation, and Arduino programming, demonstrating the practical application of smart technology in everyday life. It also promotes awareness of hygienic waste disposal solutions.
