Interactive Solar Eclipse Demonstration Model
Description:
The Interactive Solar Eclipse Demonstration Model is an educational working model designed to visually demonstrate the scientific phenomenon of a solar eclipse. Built on a 40×50 cm base, this model uses moving celestial objects to simulate how the Moon blocks sunlight and casts a shadow on the Earth during an eclipse.
Using gear motors, the Sun, Earth, and Moon (represented by balls) are set in motion. The rotation simulates orbital movement. When the Moon aligns between the Sun and Earth, an eclipse effect is created. An LED light represents the Sun, and the use of resistors ensures brightness control. A switch and battery clip power the model, and PVC pipes support the planets in orbit.
The robotic wheel and gear system make the orbits interactive and dynamic. This model is ideal for science exhibitions and classrooms, helping students visually grasp celestial alignments, orbital paths, and light/shadow interactions.
Working Mechanism:
- Setup:
- The Earth and Moon balls are mounted on rotating platforms connected to gear motors.
- The LED represents the Sun, placed at a fixed distance.
- Motor Activation:
- The Arduino UNO is programmed to rotate the Moon model around the Earth in a circular path using the relay module and gear motor.
- This simulates the Moon’s orbit.
- Eclipse Simulation:
- When the Moon comes directly between the Earth and the LED Sun, it casts a shadow on the Earth model, representing a solar eclipse.
- The LCD display shows messages like “Eclipse Begins,” “Total Eclipse,” and “Eclipse Ends” based on the Moon’s position.
- Automation:
- A GSM module (SIM800L) can optionally send an SMS notification when an “eclipse” occurs (just for fun or tech integration).
- The system is powered using a 2-pin top, power supply board, and managed via Arduino.
✅ Key Highlights:
- Demonstrates real-time movement of celestial bodies
- Clearly shows how solar eclipses occur
- Simple and interactive – powered by switches and motors
- Excellent for astronomy-related science fairs
🧩 Applications in Real Life:
- Astronomy education and awareness
- Visual aid for teachers in schools
- Demonstration in science exhibitions
