Automatic Oil Spill Skimmer
Description:
The “Automatic Oil Spill Skimmer” is an innovative working model for students designed to demonstrate how an automated oil spill cleaning system works. This project simulates an efficient method to remove oil from water, showcasing a mechanized oil skimming process using simple yet effective components.
The model is built on a 40 × 50 cm Foam Board or Sun Board base, representing a water surface with an oil spill. The skimmer mechanism consists of CDs acting as rotating discs, which help collect the oil layer floating on the water. These discs are mounted on a gear motor, which rotates them continuously to transfer the oil into a collecting container. Straws and aluminum pipes provide structural support for the skimming unit, while grommets help ensure smooth movement and alignment of the rotating discs.
A battery-powered LED indicator can be used to show when the system is operational. Battery clips and connecting wires ensure proper electrical connections and power supply to the motor.
This project provides students with hands-on learning in mechanical automation, environmental science, and oil spill cleanup technology, demonstrating a real-world application of sustainable engineering solutions.
