Description:
The “AI-Powered Waste Segregation Bin (Dry and Wet)” is an innovative working model for students that demonstrates how artificial intelligence and automation can be used to automatically segregate waste into dry and wet categories. This project simulates a smart waste management system that detects and sorts waste based on its material properties, reducing manual effort and improving recycling efficiency.
The model is built on a 40 × 50 cm Foam Board or Sun Board base, representing an automated waste segregation system. The system works as follows:
- Ultrasonic Sensor: Detects the presence of waste when a person places it inside the bin.
- Copper Plates: Act as a conductive surface to help differentiate between dry and wet waste based on moisture content.
- Arduino Uno Microcontroller: Processes the data from the sensors and determines whether the waste is dry or wet.
- Servo Motor & Flute Board Mechanism: If the waste is wet, the servo motor rotates to direct it into the wet waste compartment; if it is dry, the motor moves in the opposite direction to dispose of it into the dry waste compartment.
- Jumper Wires: Establish electrical connections between all components, ensuring proper operation.
This project provides students with hands-on learning in AI-based automation, waste management, and IoT applications, showcasing how technology can help improve environmental sustainability by making waste disposal more efficient.
